Mail Track counter
From Monday 22nd January 2007 you can request that a Mail Track counter to be set up for any/each email you send.
This counter is triggered every time your email is opened in a school; but ONLY IF the reader is using an html-enabled mail-reader (i.e. one that shows pictures).
An unknown proportion of schools (and offices) operate a 'no-pictures' mail reader; although I would stab an estimate that about 50% do so.
As you know, our mails have an 'if this mail doesn't display properly ...' link to lead these readers to an online version of your email. Viewings of both the online and 'missed-one' copies of your email will also be counted by the counter.
This is the only statistic about your email-drop that is possible for us (or any other emailers) to measure remotely.
You will be provided with a code and password so you can read the counter at any time. Though not a perfect statistic, as explained above, it is good to know how many readers you have and may provide some useful figures to compare over time.
Bearing in mind my estimate that 50% of schools overall use picture-free mail readers; the counter figure could be doubled to get a figure of total viewers. However, trial figures seem to show that 75% of our secondary schools are reading mail with pictures!
In case you wonder whether the school secretary and the final recipient of the email would generate 2 counts; this is unlikely since most computer systems cache such information, hence only 1 count per school would be registered.
Additionally; if you get a count of say 9000+ you know those 9000 have not got spam filtered.
Cost of a Mail Track counter is £10 extra on top of mailing cost.
